Alston is Open

25th May 2018 UPDATE

This afternoon the road works were cleared and Front Street was opened to through traffic. We are all so happy!

It’s a holiday weekend, the weather forecast is fantastic and the road is open – what’s not to like.

Alston is in party mood. Come and see us!

Many thanks to all our loyal customers who have made the extra effort to shop with us over the past difficult weeks. We really do appreciate your dedication.

News item from 8th April

Essential work by United Utilities to replace the very old water pipes under Front Street means that there is currently no through road for motor traffic. However, vehicles can access the street from either end; and there is additional free parking available at both the top and bottom of the town.

Alston Town Centre The work will take approximately six weeks from the beginning of April. Come and enjoy the tranquillity of a beautiful historic town without traffic!

All the shops in Alston are open for business as usual.

Many thanks to Lou from The Cane Workshop  for creating the graphic shown above.  The Cane Workshop is wonderful for a browse, full of hand made items, most made locally on Alston Moor.

The diversion around the town (or to get from one end of it to the other) is a picturesque route of a few miles via Blagill. It is clearly signposted. See the map below.

New Butcher for Alston

We are delighted to welcome Kirkup Butchers, who opened a new shop in Alston in March. It is a family-run business, established in 1995, with other branches in Longtown and Siloth.

Come to Alston to meet Billy and his team and to sample their fine range of meats, pies and cakes. We wish them much success and happiness in Alston.

You can find out about Kirkups’s special offers on Facebook
