MarzipanEach year, in the run up to Christmas, we buy in a wonderfully huge and heavy solid block of glorious Lübecker marzipan. Which means that you can buy just the amount that you need. This quality sweetmeat is good value at 99p per 100g.

This year we’ve ordered our Marzipan early so that we can enjoy some of these lovely cakes.

There are so many ways to bake with mazipan. Take a look at these.

If you are tempted, here are the recipes:

Lübecker marzipan is made in the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and the bordering localities in northern Germany. Lübecker marzipan has PGI status (Protected geographical indication).

Lubecker MarzipanLübecker marzipan is made from raw almonds, which are washed, skinned and mixed with sugar and spices. The use of freshly shelled sweet almonds with a particularly aromatic flavor is essential.

Records show that marzipan was enjoyed in Germany as far back as the 13th century. The city of Lübeck became a center for quality marzipan production in the 19th century.

Some of my marzipan will be folded into a Stollen. Let us know how you use yours.
