Enjoy Hygge

Posted on Jan 2, 2020 in News, Recipes

This winter we are indulging in hygge, see the recipes below. Hygge is Danish word, pronounced “heurgha”, that defies literal translation (though it may be a distant etymological cousin of the English word “hug”).

It describes the feeling of pleasure one gets from cosy, gentle, soothing things: a log fire, candlelight, a shared meal, an indulgent hot drink, good chocolate, baking, rice pudding, thick stews, comfy socks and passing time in good company.

Hygge is about experiences and feelings rather than ‘stuff’, but we do sell lots of the essential ingredients for creating a “hyggeligt” time!

  • Moorland Candles made here in Alston
  • excellent fair trade drinking chocolate
  • spicy, warming teas and cordials
  • pudding rice for making rich creamy rice puddings
  • beans and pulses, tinned and dried
  • fresh spices:  cinnamon sticks, nutmegs,  vanilla pods and more
  • wide range of fair trade coffees
  • lots of ethical chocolate from Montezuma, Booja Booja, Vivani and others
  • all the baking ingredients you’ll need for making cakes
  • porridge oats
  • soft cosy bamboo socks
